Cheyenne Torres of Tamanend Middle School is the district-wide winner in January for Asset #34: Cultural Competence.

Cheyenne was recognized for her work with students who are non-native English speakers. She has helped these students navigate the school, find a place to sit at lunch, and has even ended a bullying situation on the bus. Outside of school, she spends a lot of time at church. She believes “we are all God’s children” and is willing to help anyone no matter their race, gender, or age. Much of this courage comes from Cheyenne’s own experiences with bullying. Cheyenne knows personally the harm of bullying and wants to make sure no one feels that way. She is described as not just a “light,” but a true leader to all people.
