Our History

CB Cares Educational Foundation prides itself on being a developmental compass for our students, families and the community. In 1996, the organization elected to commence its work in the community by forming the “teen task force,” an initiative that spawned many successful youth action committees and conceived a plan to raise funds to build the teen center at the CB Family YMCA (now YMCA of Bucks County).

Today, their inaugural achievements have developed into several youth and parents programs which include the Youth 2 Community Music & Art Series, the Boomerang Youth Recognition Award, and the Backpack Newsflash. CB Cares EF has impacted thousands of students and awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships, received more than 10,000 Boomerang nominations and awarded $90,000 in innovative learning grants that have directly impacted our 23 schools and 38,000 families in Central Bucks School District (CBSD).

Youth empowerment has always been a primary goal for CB Cares EF and can be seen in our accomplishments, which include hosting the largest MLK volunteer day in the community, grants to support a magnificent mural at CB South High School, CB West Children’s Theater, Little Free Libraries, hundreds of Y2C performances across the region, and, more recently, at the 25th annual Doylestown Arts Festival.

Recognized by America’s Promise as one of America’s 100 Best Communities, the Central Bucks area now has the distinction of being known as a great place to live, work, and play – offering a high quality of lifestyle and a model for other communities to follow as they strive to forge strong community connections for all people. To foster youth connectivity with adults in their community, CB Cares EF presents the Parent Positive speaker series, drug and alcohol prevention programs, topic-driven workshops such as teen driving, parenting support, and community programs geared toward building healthy teen relationships and making healthy lifestyle choices.

In an age where nonprofits are struggling, CB Cares EF is a steady survivor due to its visible commitment to the community and the loyalty of its dedicated private and public sector supporters, as well as individual members. While its aggressive pursuit of conventional revenue streams has yielded a good financial base in the past, now more than ever the organization is dependent on donations from private enterprise and individuals to continue its work in the community.
